Vintage & Vineyard
The 2003 growing season featured a warm late winter, a cold, wet spring, mild summer temperatures, and several heat spikes during late September. Classic Indian summer weather prevailed in October, extending the harvest and ensuring our estate Merlot grapes were harvested with an ideal balance of sugar and acidity.

Winemaking
The grapes were crushed and de-stemmed, and the juice fermented at warm temperatures to fully extract color, body and flavor. The wine aged 18 months in French oak barrels before being bottled unfiltered in December, 2005.

Winemaker’s Notes
Bob Pecota refers to this wine as a “Sideways” Merlot, in that it resembles Pinot Noir in body and texture. Soft on the palate, with seductive black fruit and toasty oak aromas and smooth, delectable flavors, it’s a perfect choice for pork chops topped with cherry-rhubarb chutney.
